Chicago Conference on Social Action, March-August 1943
Scope and Contents
“Conference on Social Action for Men in Civilian Public Service and other pacifists,” scheduled April 12-18, 1943. Fuson was among the sponsors of a group of CPS men who hoped to develop at plan for more effective and alternative pacifist action and service. Major General Lewis B. Hershey placed a ban on CPS men attending the conference, and it was delayed by a week. Fuson corresponded with the major planners and proposed that it would be better to delay the conference until issues were resolved, especially, freedom of the conscripted CPS men. Some men attended in defiance of the ban.
