Pierce C. Wetter, convicted under the Espionage Act of 1917 in Chicago 1918 (Offense: Seditious conspiracy, involvement in IWW): Letters, various articles, and “The Men I Left at Leavenworth” (of miscellaneous interest: article mentioning Wetter’s relation to President Franklin Pierce and birth in Madagascar)
Correspondence with Susan and Floyd Beebe regarding appeal for Floyd Beebe’s commutation. Letters from/concerning Henry Evans and Samuel Ross (Western State Penitentiary inmates who made and sold beaded bags), Charles “Chas” Albertus, George A Phair, Herbert J Stahl, and Donald Lowrie (ex-convict well known for work in prison reform and books, “My Life in Prison” and “My Life Out of Prison”).
(14) 1920 cartoons depicting conditions of Eastern State Penitentiary, attributed to Frederick Funk (Born New York c. 1887, inmate at ESP c.1917-Feb 5 1922, ?-1930 convicted of larceny, felonious assault, forgery) using the alias Edward P Mitchell. Other aliases of Funk are Mitchell, Frank Funk, Frederick Reid. May have been a WWI vet, unmarried, did not attend school (According to ESP 1930 census). Also several articles concerning and letters from Funk.
