In addition to giving news of friends and family, Mott discusses the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society and the disagreement between abolitionists William Lloyd Garrison and Wendell Phillips. Mott also discusses efforts to advocate for and improve the conditions of newly-freed African Americans and talks briefly about politics, her reading habits, and a visit to New York for the funeral of Samuel Willets's son.
