Mott, Lucretia to Martha, Roadside, 1878 2mo 21
Scope and Contents
4 pages. Written from Roadside. Likely written to her daughter Martha Mott Lord. Lucretia Mott shares recent news concerning family and friends. She talks briefly about religion, and she writes that a stir was raised at Monthly Meeting when it was suggested that they revise their scripture. She says the "younger active members" wanted the topic referred to a committee, but they were not able to reach unity to move to that step. She adds that she understands the younger generation not being satisfied with the "old ruts of sectarian theology." She advises that the recipient need not fear that false doctrines are taught as Swarthmore College if "Mary Mott" should go there, likely referring to Martha Lord's daughter Mary Mott Lord.
