Lossing, Benson J. to Davis, Edward M., Dover Plains, 1880 12mo 29
Scope and Contents
4 pages. Benson John Lossing was a prominent historian. Discusses the Nine Partners boarding school which both he and Lucretia Mott attended. Received a letter and signed photograph from Mott a year ago that he offers to copy for Edward Morris Davis. Thanks Davis for the photograph of Mott and mentions owning a photograph of her with Deborah Willets. Recently completed a brief biographical sketch of Mott for a book called "Eminent Americans." Says, "I hope to see the day when woman in law and in society, as in Nation and Equity shall be recognized as the peer of man. Our National Constitution makes her a citizen; an unreasoning prejudice keeps her a vassal. A better day is dawning."
