Biographical / Historical
After working with the AFSC in France in 1960, Oliver Wilgress volunteered for a two-year volunteer stint in Tanganyika with VISA in 1961, immediately after his graduation from Cal Poly. He began his training with eleven others at Pendle Hill in June. He began learning Swahili at Tengeru under Jim Brain then and then was posted to the Pare District. In December 1961 he was moved south, to Njombe, to do community development work.
