Describes Martha Schofield's daily life, with a focus on social calls, attendance of Quaker Meeting, her religious and emotional life, and her friendship with John Bunting (whom she called "mon ami"). The diary also describes the various concerts and lectures she attended, including one by Anna E. Dickinson, and her work teaching at several schools in Philadelphia, including the Bethany School. Descriptions of natural vistas (e.g., a sunrise on the Atlantic, a view of the Hudson, the top of "Castle Rock") also recur.
