Scope and Contents
168 pages. Journal of poems, quotes, and writing extracts by multiple authors that were copied by Martha Schofield between 1858-1865. Also contains some newspaper clippings and a list of "assumed names." Includes content about abolition, capital punishment, and the death of Abraham Lincoln. Excerpts are by Francis D. Gage, Maria Townsend, Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney, Lydia Huntley Sigourney, Hannah Flagg Gould, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and others. Also features writing by Martha Schofield's family, friends, and students. Pages 3, 139, 148, 150, 151, and 154 are blank and were not scanned.
