127 pages. Diary of Martha Schofield, with entries from July 1, 1864 to October 5, 1865. Schofield later added a few notes in pencil, dated 1914. Loose papers within the diary have been scanned at the end. Records her daily life, including her personal relationships and work as a teacher. Frequently discusses the Civil War and covers the death of Abraham Lincoln in detail. Attended a lecture Anna E. Dickinson (1865-05-04) about women. The diary concludes upon Schofield's move to South Carolina, where she was appointed to teach African Americans by the Pennsylvania Freedmen's Relief Association.
