Philadelphia Yearly Meeting extracts concerning the Quaker Peace Testimony

Joseph Swain correspondence

Abstract

This collection primarily includes correspondence between the Hoovers and the Swains. Also included are letters from Herbert Hoover and his wife Lou Henry regarding Joseph Swain, and letters from Frances Swain regarding her political support of Hoover. There are also two letters of Joseph Swain to his wife on their anniversary.

Sarah Ann Cooper family papers

Abstract

Correspondence and miscellaneous papers of the Cooper family of Lancaster Co., Pa. Of particular interest are letters received from Aschel W. Cooper from New Orleans (1831-39, 1856, 1872, 1880) telling of his life in that city, Sarah Cooper's letter from Haiti (1855) describing her visit, and a letter from Hiriam T. to his sister (1847) regarding placement of her children. Also includes an advertisement of the Friend's Shaul Department of Cooper and Conard in Philadelphia (1884).

Journal of Caleb B. Cope, documenting a religious visit to England in 1876 in the company of Daniel Koll, a Quaker minister of the Primitive Friends. Fritchley Meeting served as their base. Also includes a transcript of the journal and a photocopycopy of the deed for the North Dartmouth Monthly Meeting meeting house, 1850.

Redman family papers

Abstract

This collection includes Mercy Redman's journal of her visits to eighty-seven meetings in New York, New England, and Pennsylvania. During this time she met and travelled with John Woolman. Also included is a copy of the record kept by Thomas Redman of his imprisonment and trial for refusing to take an oath of loyalty to the United States. A poem written by John E. Redman and various other family documents are also included.
