Philadelphia Yearly Meeting extracts concerning the Quaker Peace Testimony
This collection contains typed extracts on meeting minutes in which the Quaker stance in war and conscientious objection are discussed. Most materials relate to Quaker activities in the U.S. Civil War.
Joseph Swain correspondence
This collection primarily includes correspondence between the Hoovers and the Swains. Also included are letters from Herbert Hoover and his wife Lou Henry regarding Joseph Swain, and letters from Frances Swain regarding her political support of Hoover. There are also two letters of Joseph Swain to his wife on their anniversary.
Sarah Ann Cooper family papers
Correspondence and miscellaneous papers of the Cooper family of Lancaster Co., Pa. Of particular interest are letters received from Aschel W. Cooper from New Orleans (1831-39, 1856, 1872, 1880) telling of his life in that city, Sarah Cooper's letter from Haiti (1855) describing her visit, and a letter from Hiriam T. to his sister (1847) regarding placement of her children. Also includes an advertisement of the Friend's Shaul Department of Cooper and Conard in Philadelphia (1884).
Townsend Cooper family papers
Includes Townsend Cooper's receipt book, 1870-74, and miscellaneous receipts, the disownments of Elizabeth and Mary Cooper, a printed invitation to a quilting party, 1831, and other miscellaneous materials. Also includes genealogical notes on the Cooper and Hibberd families.
Thomas Bissell family papers
Includes genealogical data on the Bissell Family in the 17th century as well as two apprenticeship indentures, to patton ringmaking in Worcester County, England, dated 1704, and to farming in New Jersey, dated 1835.
Caleb B. Cope Primitive Friends papers
Journal of Caleb B. Cope, documenting a religious visit to England in 1876 in the company of Daniel Koll, a Quaker minister of the Primitive Friends. Fritchley Meeting served as their base. Also includes a transcript of the journal and a photocopycopy of the deed for the North Dartmouth Monthly Meeting meeting house, 1850.
Redman family papers
This collection includes Mercy Redman's journal of her visits to eighty-seven meetings in New York, New England, and Pennsylvania. During this time she met and travelled with John Woolman. Also included is a copy of the record kept by Thomas Redman of his imprisonment and trial for refusing to take an oath of loyalty to the United States. A poem written by John E. Redman and various other family documents are also included.
Charles Edgar Roake family papers
This collection includes photostatic copies of the birth certificate of Joseph Roake, and of other members of the Roake family. Also included is a photostatic copy of the journal of Joseph Roake. These materials appear in Charles Edgar Roake's book, The Journal of Joseph Roake, published in 1954.
Helen Wood Bell papers
This collection includes a journal of Helen Wood Bell of her stay in New York State, and a series of letters written in the last years of her life, describing the progression of her illness. Also included are pictures of the Randolph and other related families.
