Hambleton family papers

Scope and Contents

The collection contains draft correspondence and writings attributed to Isaac P. Hambleton of Carmel Monthly Meeting, Ohio. He was a strong supporter of abolition. The letters and manuscripts express liberal religious and progressive Quaker views.

William Lewis Lamborn genealogical research papers

Abstract

The collection contains genealogical correspondence and notes compiled by William L. Lamborn in preparation for a proposed book on the Lamborn family. Included are a few letters addressd to his brother George S. Lamborn who continued the project after William's early death. Their research was included in Samuel Lamborn's Genealogy of the Lamborn Family published in 1894.

Quaker Emergency Service lectures

Abstract

The Quaker Emergency Service was founded in January 1942 by members of the combined Peace and Service Committees of the two New York Monthly Meetings. In the spring of 1944, the Service sponsored a series of lectures focusing on adolescent psychology which were held in the French Institute building, 22 East 60th Street, New York, New York.

Henry T. Osborne correspondence

Abstract The collection consists of the correspondence of Henry T. Osborne (1868-1896), a civil engineer and member of Weare Monthly Meeting, New Hampshire. The letters were sent to family and friends at home, most from Amesbury, Massachusetts, where he worked as a surveyor with John P. Titcomb (1891-1932). Abstract

The collection contains correspondence between members of the Gideon and Mary W. (Willets) Frost family, Hicksite Quakers of Westbury, Long Island, New York. Gideon Frost was a successful merchant, philanthropist, and founder of Friends Academy at Locust Valley. Family members were active in Quaker concerns, especially education and abolition. The letters mention prominent Friends, family, and anti-slavery concerns.

Signe Wilkinson Papers

The collection contains typescripts of lectures written by Pulitzer Prize winning political cartoonist Signe Wilkinson. Most are autobiographical and reflect her Quaker beliefs as well as activism through art. The papers are annotated and often include doodles and sketches.

Abstract Charles Thomas Hancock, II, was a Quaker historian and activist. He served as a CO in World War II and was a member of Scarsdale Monthly Meeting and later Mount Toby Monthly Meeting. He served as editor of a newsletter, the New York Young Friends Correspondent from 1949-1951. The small collection contains largely business correspondence concerning the Correspondent, with some older Quaker material for reference.
