Historically, when processing a collection, FHL staff have often removed the photographs from the manuscript portion (e.g. RG4 organizational records or RG5 family or personal papers) and stored them as an associated PA photographs collection. FHL staff have also assembled alphabetical files by topic, such as the Meetinghouse Picture File.

Niles family photographs and slides

Overview

Mary Cushing (Howard) Niles (1900-1993) was a pioneer in the field of personnel management, and her husband, Henry E. Niles (1900-1993), was a management executive. Both were active in Quaker concerns. This collection includes formal portraits of family members, career-related pictures, travel photos, family photos, photos of family friends, and miscellaneous photos, along with slides and negatives.

Palmer Family Photographs

Overview

The Palmer family was a Hicksite Quaker family who settled in Bucks County, PA, but who were also active in Delaware County, especially as several family members attended Swarthmore College. Dating from the 1880s to the 1890s, this collections consists of cabinet cards and cartes de visite that depict members of the Palmer family as well as family relatives or friends.

The Parrish family were prominent Philadelphia Quakers with close ties to Swarthmore College (Edward Parrish was the first president of the College). This collection contains portraits of various members of the Parrish family. The portraits are primarily card photographs.

Paul M. Pearson and Drew Pearson photographs

Pearson (1871-1938) was a noted Quaker educator, editor, and speaker, a professor of Public Speaking at Swarthmore College, the first civilian governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, an assistant director of the U.S. Housing Authority, and a leading founder and executive in the Chautauqua movement. Pendle Hill photographs

Overview

Pendle Hill is a Quaker study center located in Wallingford, Pennsylvania. This collection contains mainly color photographs from 1997 and 1998. These photos are of the Quaker Peace Roundtable, with photographs by Marge Shier and possibly held at Swarthmore meeting house, along with the Conference on Friends and the Vietnam War, 2000, with photographs by Wilmer Tjossem.
