Charles Thomas Hancock, II, was a Quaker historian and activist. He served as a CO in World War II and was a member of Scarsdale Monthly Meeting and later Mount Toby Monthly Meeting. He served as editor of a newsletter, the New York Young Friends Correspondent from 1949-1951. The small collection contains largely business correspondence concerning the Correspondent, with some older Quaker material for reference. The Correspondent was published from 1939 to about 1951, supported by tbe two New York Yearly Meetings. It focused on Quaker history and concerns, particularly peace, with news from other Young Friends organizations and yearly meetings.

Biographical / Historical

Charles Thomas Hancock, II, known as "Tom," served as a concientious objector in World War II and joined Orange Grove Friends Meeting in 1946. He transferred to Scarsdale Monthly Meeting and became very active in New York Yearly Meeting and in peace organizations. He later transferred his membership to Mount Toby Monthly Meeting and served New England Yearly Meeting as well as his monthly Meeting. He died in 1997.
