The collection contains correspondence and other papers of Arthur W. Clark, a Quaker active in prison reform and restorative justice. Long active in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting committees, he was the first secretary of the PYM Prison Service Committee established in 1960, and he served as Executive Director of the Clemency Project Working Group. A small amount of personal correspondence is included.

Biographical / Historical
Arthur W. Clark was a graduate of Germantown Friends School and the University of Pennsylvania. A member of Germantown Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, he married Mary Bennett Clark. A dedicated advocate for reform within the Criminal Justice System and committed to Restorative Justice, he was instrumental in starting a number of programs including the Pennsylvania Program for Women and Girl Offenders and the Clemency Project and was honored by the Pennsylvania Prison Society.

Custodial History
Arthur W. Clark was a long-time employee of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. When he retired, this file was left in his office and preserved by Judy Van Hoy who was working for PYM at the time. The folder was included in the Van Hoy gift donation of 2016.
