Philadelphia Yearly Meeting News photographs
Scope and Contents
This collection includes black and white photographs and color photographs of various sizes, as well as negatives and color slides. There are a few cartoons and other graphics as well.
The photographs in the series "Philadelphia Yearly Meeting News" are original versions of the photos printed in issues of that publication. They are primarily photographs of individual Meeting members, of groups of Meeting attendees, of projects or events undertaken by a Meeting, or of Meeting Houses. Occassionally, a proof or draft of the issue was retained with the collection, where the Friends Historical Library is missing the final copy/issue.
There is also a series "Annual Sessions," which consists of photographs taken at the annual gathering of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, including many photographs which were not published in the newsletter.
The "Miscellaneous" series includes graphics which could not be matched to a specific issues of the newsletter or a specific yearly meeting. Of special interest is a file of cartoons and correspondence by Ronald William Taylor (R.T.), a cartoonist for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting News, which includes a cartoon about South African Friends divesting from Philadelphia after the MOVE bombings.
