Biographical / Historical
Luke Woodard (1832-1925) was a Gurneyite Friend and a leader of the Great Revival movement in the second half of the 19th century. He was an active evangelist in New York Yearly Meeting in the 1870s and one of the first Quaker pastors. In 1881 his apparent tolerance of water baptism resulted in a special session of the Representative Meeting for New York Yearly Meeting. Woodard maintained that he was in accord with Quaker Discipline, and the Meeting accepted his statement.
