This collection consists of twelve paintings created by students as an expression of reactions to the Gulf War. The artworks were created as part of a group activity, "War Art Painting Session," sponsored by Junto and the Swarthmore Committee Opposed to Registration and the Draft (CORD) and held at the Griffin Gallery on 1991 February 16.

Biographical / Historical
The Committee Opposed to Registration and the Draft (CORD) was a student organization at Swarthmore College at least from 1983 to 1991 or later. It began as a support and information group for non-registrants. Among other activities, the group maintained a collection of materials on Draft Registration/ Resistance, etc., in McCabe Library. CORD broadened its scope to educate students on the issues of anti-militarism, and involving student in activism supporting rational non-violence. The group was open to anyone, male or female, registered or not.
