Includes a letter dated 11 month, 1875, from Jesse Garrett, Burlington, NJ, which releases him as tenant of his farm because he (Garrett) understands the need for Edward to assume responsibility at the Middletown farm upon the death of his brother Thomas. Edward and Elizabeth Smedley served as Superintendent and Matron of Westtown 1896-1906. He was appointed Overseer, Elder at Middletown Meeting and also Clerk at the Monthly and Quarterly Meetings.
