Historical Note
Jane Addams Peace Association (JAPA); tax-exempt organization which supports educational projects of the U.S. Section, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom; JAPA was incorporated in Illinois in December 1948 to promote understanding among peoples of all nations in order to avoid war and to achieve more lasting peace; headquartered in New York, NY. The Jane Addams Children's Book Award has been presented since 1958 by JAPA and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom U.S. Section, to authors of books that they judge most effective in promoting the cause of peace, social justice and world community.
