Mary Jo and Walter Uphoff Collected Papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence (1934-1991), especially regarding peace research and education. It includes Mary Jo Uphoff's involvement with Youth Committee Against War (of the Keep America Out of War Congress), documents from Walter Uphoff's part in founding of the Peace Research Organization Fund (PROF), 1963-1966, the Wisconsin Committee Against Peacetime Conscription (1944-1945), and involvement with peace movements in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Colorado. It also includes information about labor and student dissent to the Vietnam War. Correspondents include Brigadier-General Michael Harbottle, and their son, Norman Thomas Uphoff.

Biographical
Mary Jo Uphoff was involved with Youth Committee Against War (of the Keep America Out of War Congress). Walter Uphoff was born February 28, 1913, in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin and studied at the University of Wisconsin (B.S., 1934; Ph.D., 1935). He married Mary Jo Weiler in 1938 and joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota in 1951. He was a labor historian and author of Kohler On Strike. Walter and Mary Jo Uphoff moved to Colorado in 1961. After retirement in 1976, they pursued their interest in psychical research. Walter Uphoff died in 1998.
