Biographical / Historical
Friends Village at Woodstown was established as a boarding home for elderly and ill Friends in 1896. In 1897 the Friends Boarding Home opened in a rented house at 117 North Main Street. In 1904 the Board of Managers of Friends Home purchased a larger house at 75 North Main Street and the Home moved the following year. In 1911 it expanded again to the property next door.
After renovations, the Home expanded to include the Friends Infirmary which opened in 1914. The Friends Infirmary operated until 1957, and after its closure was repurposed as an annex to Friends Home.
By the 1970s, a new building was needed and six acres outside of the business district but still part of Woodstown was purchased. The incorporated Friends Boarding Home of Salem Quarterly Meeting updated its name to Friends Home at Woodstown, and the new facility opened in 1976 with its Board nominated by Salem Quarter.
Friends Home at Woodstown was purchased by FellowshipLIFE in 2022 and continues tto operate, now doing business as Friends Village and no longer affiliated with the Quarterly Meeting.
