Biographical / Historical

Ashton Monthly Meeting in Montgomery County, Maryland, was settled as a Particular Meeting in 1881, under the care of Baltimore Monthly Meeting. In 1887, with consent of its parent monthly and the Baltimore Quarterly Meeting, it was established as a monthly meeting. Never a large meeting, its membership through the years was gradually reduced. Joint meetings were often held with the Hicksite Friends at nearby Sandy Spring in the 1940s. On October 29, 1950, Ashton Monthly Meeting, Orthodox, was joined to the Sandy Spring Friends Monthly Meeting of United Friends, part of the Potomac Quarterly Meeting.
