Biographical / Historical

Shrewsbury Monthly Meeting was established in 1672. The meeting was transfered to Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1682. The meeting separated, creating two branches. The Orthodox branch was discontinued in 1855. The Hicksite monthly meeting was transfered to New York Yearly Meeting (Hicksite) in 1833. It merged to form Shrewsbury and Manasquan Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) in 1928, which became Manasquan Monthly Meeting in 1955. In 1954, the second Shrewsbury Monthly Meeting was established from Shrewsbury Meeting of Friends, which had been meeting as early as 1937.
