Abstract

The scrapbook of Josiah P. Marvel includes Nazi documents, such as certificates and letters, from Marvel's time in occupied France during the summer of 1940, while travelling to and from Paris in service to the American Friends Service Committee. Documents include permissions from Nazi commanders in France, as well as The Hague and Brussels. Also included is a map of the location of prison camps, clothing lists, and a printed booklet on the National Work for Infants.

Abstract Mary Ayer was a member of Bryn Mawr’s class of 1901. While at college, Ayer was involved in varsity basketball, Mandolin and Banjo Club, and class plays. After graduating from Bryn Mawr, Ayer pursued graduated studies at Radcliffe (1901-1902) and Simmons College (1905-1906). In 1910, she married John Rousmaniere, a graduate of Harvard Law School. Abstract Mary Elizabeth Garrett (1854-1915) promoted women's education by founding the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, Maryland, helping to finance Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and ensuring that women were admitted to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her family was prominent in Baltimore society, which allowed her to pursue her philanthropic activities. She was an active suffragist and financially helped that cause until her death in 1915. Abstract The poet John Masefield was born on June 1, 1878 in Ledbury, Herefordshire, England. Masefield was best known for his sea poems, including "Sea Fever" and "Cargoes," and for his long, narrative poems, including "The Everlasting Mercy." He also wrote adventure novels, short stories, and works for children, as well as two autobiographical works.
