David McReynolds (1929-2018), was an activist with the War Resisters League, the Socialist Party USA and the Democratic Socialists of America. He was an editor of Liberation magazine in the 1950s and a leader of the WRL from the 1950s until his retirement in 1999. A.J. Muste (1885-1967), was ordained a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church, but later (1917), he became a member of the Society of Friends. During World War I, Muste's refusal to abandon his pacifist position led to his forced resignation from the Central Congregational Church in Newtonville, Massachusetts. The National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee was formed in September 1982 at a National Action Conference of the War Resisters League and the Center on Law and Pacifism. Its supporters promote war tax resistance on the national level. The NWTRC is not to be confused with the organization War Tax Resistance, begun in New York, New York in 1969.
