Abstract
Daniel Kent, emigrated to Chester County, Pa. from Ireland, in 1785. He joined the Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1790, and married Esther Hawley in 1791. Their great-grandson Henry Simmons Kent (1833-1906) was active in the establishment of Swarthmore Monthly Meeting and the Borough of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Robert "Tiny" Maxwell (1884-1922) was an influential college and professional football player who attended Swarthmore College from 1904-1906. In 1984, Ralph Keyes wrote an article about Maxwell for Sports Illustrated. Abstract
Gertrude Gilmore Lafore (1905-1993) was an alumna of Swarthmore College and a nursery school teacher based in Moylan, Pa. The bulk of the Gertrude Gilmore Lafore letters received date from 1928 to 1933 and are personal in nature, although there are also letters relating to her education, employment, and finances. There are a few letters from later years, and a couple photographs.
