Abstract

The Cooper-Richardson collection contains correspondence and family memorabilia from the Cooper family (William Evans and Sarah Matlack Roberts Cooper). The Cooper family were Quakers of New Jersey, attending meetings in the Woodbury and Byberry areas. The collection includes correspondence and family memorabilia. Of particular interest is the journal of their granddaughter, Anna C. Richardson, written on her trip to California in 1904, and the writings of Sarah Cooper.

Morris Lloyd (1856-1932) was a Philadelphia Quaker and the nephew of Elizabeth Lloyd Jr. Collection includes genealogical chart of descent from Robert Lloyd and Lowry Jones of Merion; diary (1832) of Mary Beans, a Bucks County school teacher; commonplace books of Elizabeth Lloyd, Jr.; Morris Lloyd's diaries (1880) of a trip to California. and printed material kept by the family.

Abstract The Smedley family in America is descended from a George Smedley, a Quaker, who arrived in Pennsylvania about 1682, purchasing property from William Penn in what is now Middletown Township, Delaware County. The collection represents the descendants of Thomas Smedley and his brother Edward G. Smedley. The property was purchased by a nephew, Walter Smedley, a well-known Philadelphia Quaker architect.
