Burlington First-Day School Union

Abstract

The Burlington First-Day School Union was a Hicksite Quaker organization established in 1888. It included representatives from nine First-Day schools in Burlington and Mercer Counties, New Jersey, who met quarterly. Included are minutes of the Union, 1894-1902, and reports from First-day schools at Trenton, Upper Springfield, Mount Holly, Crosswicks, Mansfield, Mount, East Branch, Rancocas, and Vincentown.

Edith K. Bushong family papers

These papers include the journal of Edith Bushong from 1856 to 1858, detailing the life of the wife of a 19th century Quaker farmer. The papers also include essays and a copy book of Abraham Rakestraw, recording his editorial letters to newspapers under various pseudonyms.

Larry Scott Butler Papers

Abstract Larry Scott Butler is a Quaker activist who was involved in civil rights work in Alabama in 1965 and was a leader in the gay rights movement in the 1970s and 1980s. The collection contains correspondence, photographs, and the diary he kept while participating in the SCOPE project, Barbour County, Alabama, which was sponsored by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Byberry Hall Association Records

Abstract

Byberry Hall Association was organized in 1854 when the citizens of Byberry township and vicinity decided to form a company for the purpose of erecting a building where residents could meet to hear lectures, hold elections, etc. This collection contains the records of the Byberry Hall Association, 1847-1981. It includes the secretary's book containing minutes (1854-1905); account books, deeds and miscellaneous papers.

Byberry Library Company was founded in 1794 and incorporated in 1799. Located in the Byberry section of Philadelphia, Pa., the Library was generally under Quaker management. Byberry Philosophical Society Minutes

Abstract

Minutes of the Byberry Philosophical Society which was formed in the early nineteenth century for the "acquisition and promotion of scientific knowledge." The group collected specimens of flora, fauna, minerals, and items of historic interest and eventually erected a building to hold the collection. Almost all of their members were Quakers, but this was not a condition of membership.

The Byberry School Association was formed in 1837 by several members of the Society of Friends, mostly members of Byberry Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) for the purpose of raising stock to buy land and erect a secondary school in Byberry, Pennsylvania.
