Pemberton Manuscripts

Abstract The collection contains primarily family correspondence of the three Pemberton brothers -- Israel, James, and John, prominent members of the Society of Friends in Philadelphia who were exiled to Virginia during the Revolutionary War for their pacifism. Abstract

In 3mo 1944, Rufus Jones published an article, "Are We Ready," in Friends Intelligencer. In response to his concern for deepening the spiritual life of the Religious Society of Friends, members of both the Race Street and Arch Street Philadelphia Yearly Meetings gathered six months later in the meeting house at 15th and Race Streets. Records include minutes, correspondence, and publications.

Richard Price correspondence with John Watson

Journal of Caleb B. Cope, documenting a religious visit to England in 1876 in the company of Daniel Koll, a Quaker minister of the Primitive Friends. Fritchley Meeting served as their base. Purdy Family Papers

Abstract The collection contains account books, financial papers, family correspondence, and miscellaneous papers of William Purdy, a New York Quaker preacher, and his family. He was a member of Amawalk Monthly Meeting, attending Croton preparative and worship meetings, and traveled in the ministry, leaving an undated record of the Friends and meetings that he visited. The Friends Historical Library has collected Quaker disciplines since its founding in 1871. FHL is also the official repository for the records of seven American yearly meetings.
