Bettle Family Papers
"Massacre: A Play"
Charlotte Brate's play, "Massacre," describes a fictional event in the life of William Penn. It takes place in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1683, and describes the white settlers' fear of an "Indian massacre" and misunderstandings between the settlers and the Lenni-Lenape.
Collection of Bringhurst Family Correspondence
Samuel J. Bunting scrapbook
Samuel J. Bunting's scrapbook includes Quaker meeting minutes, sheet music, clippings related to the Society of Friends, poetry, printed religious illustrations of Quakers, materials related to the Sesqui-Centennial International Exposition, clippings related to history of Quakers in Philadelphia, pamphlets on Thomas Jefferson, pamphlets on the history of Philadelphia, and articles on World War I from "The Christian Century."
Byberry Hall Association Records
Byberry Hall Association was organized in 1854 when the citizens of Byberry township and vicinity decided to form a company for the purpose of erecting a building where residents could meet to hear lectures, hold elections, etc. This collection contains the records of the Byberry Hall Association, 1847-1981. It includes the secretary's book containing minutes (1854-1905); account books, deeds and miscellaneous papers.
Byberry Philosophical Society Minutes
Minutes of the Byberry Philosophical Society which was formed in the early nineteenth century for the "acquisition and promotion of scientific knowledge." The group collected specimens of flora, fauna, minerals, and items of historic interest and eventually erected a building to hold the collection. Almost all of their members were Quakers, but this was not a condition of membership.
Byberry School Association Records
The Byberry School Association was formed in 1837 by several members of the Society of Friends, mostly members of Byberry Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) for the purpose of raising stock to buy land and erect a secondary school in Byberry, Pennsylvania. It includes minutes, financial records, and some miscellaneous papers.
Henry J. Cadbury Letter
This collection contains a 1966 letter sent to Henry J. Cadbury by Avis G. Clarke on behalf of the American Antiquarian Society. Clarke and the Society ask Cadbury about information regarding the origin of American "Epistles" printed before 1820.
Richard Tapper Cadbury Papers
Richard Tapper Cadbury (1853-1929) was a Quaker businessman, teacher, writer, and art connoisseur. His mother's brother, Earl Shinn, Jr., (1838-1886) was a well-known art critic. The collection contains correspondence and memorabilia of the Cadbury, Comfort, Haines, and Shinn families. The letters give a detailed picture of life in Philadelphia Quaker families of the mid 19th century, and of the hardships of those who participated in the California gold rush.
