Joseph Fisher manuscript

Abstract

This poem, written by Joseph Fisher to Carmel Friends, is related to the religious tensions among Quakers during the Hicksite-Orthodox separation. It is addressed to a meeting in Carmel, to which Joseph Fisher used to belong. The original poem was written in 1832, and this copy was made by Lydia Morlan in 1833.

Ross Flanagan Papers

Abstract

Ross Flanagan (1934- ), is Quaker pacifist and activist, has been involved in many Quaker-sponsored projects, peace, and civil rights activities. In the 1950s he served on the staff of the American Friends Service Committee. He was an early protestor against the Vietnam war and worked with A Quaker Action Group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the 1970s Flanagan was involved in neighborhood revitalization projects in West Philadelphia.

Foulke Family Papers

Abstract The Foulke family was a prominent Quaker family of Richland, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, descended from Edward (1651-1741) and Eleanor (Hugh) Foulke (d. 1733) who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1698. Fowler Orphanage Association Records

Abstract

Fowler Orphanage (later Fowler Home for Girls) in Cairo, Egypt was founded in 1906 with money collected by John and Esther Fowler, both members of the Society of Friends. The Fowler Orphanage Association, afiliated with Ohio Yearly Meeting (Conservative), was formed in 1927 to provide support and met yearly until it was laid down in 1987. Collection includes minutes of the Association as well as related correspondence, financial records, and photographs.

Solomon Frazer prison letters, 1864-1865 (copies)

Abstract

This collection is a compilation of photocopies and typescripts of the letters of Solomon Frazer, written while he was imprisoned at Salisbury Confederate Prison as a religious objector to the Civil War. The letters are arranged as an informal history of the prison and of the Quaker community of North Carolina during the Civil War. Also included are letters from several other Quakers, some of whom were imprisoned as religious objectors and others who participated in the conflict.
