Abstract Lucretia Mott was a prominent Philadelphia Quaker minister and a leader in reform movements, especially antislavery, education, peace, and women's rights. She was born in 1793 in Nantucket, Mass., the daughter of Thomas and Anna Coffin, and educated at Nine Partners Boarding School in Dutchess Co., N.Y. Abstract In June 1940 at the age of thirty-five, John W. Nason (1905-2001) became the eighth president of Swarthmore College. Newlin family correspondence

Novelty Records

Abstract

The Novelty was a women's social club founded in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, in 1887. Most of its first members were Quakers and members of Lansdowne Monthly Meeting. The group was established "for the promotion of sociability and good house and home-keeping," according to its by-laws. The records include minutes, 1887-1938 and scattered, 1954, 1982-1984; by-laws and membership lists and attendance, writings by members, histories, and some miscellaneous material.

Abstract Charles Smith Ogden (1822-1904) was a Quaker businessman, genealogist, and civic leader. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, educated in Friends' schools, and married Emma Corbit in 1848. He worked as a wholesale druggist before the Civil War, was active on the committee to elect Abraham Lincoln, and served as Consul to Quebec, Canada, 1860-1864. This collection consists of the papers of John Melchior Ogden, including newspaper clippings, letters and receipts, as well as notices from charitable associations such as the Carpenters' Company and the House of Refuge. Also included are letters to Charles Smith Ogden regarding the book, In Memoriam John Melchior Ogden, as well as reminiscences of Philadelphia in 1800 by Jesse Ogden, and an engraving of Fairhill Meeting House by Joseph Pennell.
