World Peaceways was incorporated in 1931 as World Peace Posters, Inc. The organization changed its name to World Peaceways, Inc. in 1932 to reflect the expansion of its media campaign beyond posters and billboards to include modern advertising techniques. These included magazine advertising and radio programming to counteract the "artificial glories of war."

Turn Toward Peace attempted to coordinate the efforts of peace organizations for more effective action in the 1960s. World Without War Council was chosen as the group's new name in 1967 to help clarify that it was a council made up of iany organizations set up to work for long-term change.

Abstract

The World Without War Council-Midwest developed about 1970. It was affiliated with the World With War Council national office, but functioned independently in terms of programming and operations. The WWWC-Midwest worked with leaders of NGOs, business, labor, religious bodies, professional organizations, and education, for the nonviolent resolution of international conflict and constructive global change.
