Biographical / Historical
Sandra ("Sonnie") Cronk and Kathryn Damiano, another teacher at Pendle Hill, co-founded the School of the Spirit in 1989. In 1991 they were joined by Frances Taber who was a core teacher for the first offering of the program, On Being A Spiritual Nurturer. Beginning with the third class in 1995, the core program was expanded to two years to enable Friends from a distance to attend. In addition to the Spiritual Nurturer Program SoTS continues a tradition of silent retreats and offers other programs.
After Sandra's death in April of 2000, the School of the Spirit Ministry, formerly sponsored by the Meeting on Worship and Ministry of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, became a Working Group under that body's Worship and Care Standing Committee and continues under its care. PYM holds and processes its monies. The Board serves as stewards of the SoTS Ministry and day-to-day running is overseen by its Administrator.

The minutes of the Board, 1990-1998, were deposited by SoTS (Carolyn Moon) with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 2001, then transferred to FHL by PYM (Alan Reeder). In 2011 Michael Wajda deposited the Spiritual Nurture papers. In 2024, additional minutes were deposited by Linda Chidsey.
Processing Information
In 2024, Linda Chidsey donated minutes duplicating some that were already in the collection. Duplicate minutes (photocopied) were removed and recycled.
