Publications of Swarthmore College including pre-opening issues relating to its establishment and construction. Collection includes Bulletins, Directories, Calendars, Fundraising Publications, Special Events Publications, The Halcyon (yearbook), and Student Publications.
The official depository of the publications of Swarthmore College is maintained by the McCabe Library of Swarthmore College. All titles are accessible through Tripod, the library online catalog. Consult the McCabe Library Reference Desk for information about these materials.
Friends Historical Library maintains a reference collection of official College publications of special importance as part of the Swarthmore College Archives. Most notable is the series of the Swarthmore College Bulletin, a publication that includes the Annual Reports, Catalogue issues, Alumni Issues, Reports of Stockholders, Presidents and Treasurer. Also included in Official College Publications are early (1866-1871) pre-Bulletin publications, alumni directories, college calendars, fund-raising publications, special events publications such as those associated with commencements and presidential inaugurations, College community and departmental publications, Halcyon (the College yearbook), and student publications. Inclusive dates are 1866–ongoing.

Biographical / Historical
Swarthmore College was incorporated in 1864; opening ceremonies were held in 1869, and its first class graduated in 1873. The first Swarthmore Phoenix (student newspaper) was published in 1881, and the first yearbook, The Halcyon, appeared in 1883.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The bulk of this collection consists of items collected by FHL Staff as they were published, over time. There have also been donations of runs of publications from the producing department or student group, as well as donations of publications collected by individual alumni or college staff.
