Biographical / Historical
Robert Clarkson Brooks (1874-1941) received his formal education from Indiana University (A.B.,1896) and Cornell University (Ph. D., 1903). He served assistant professorships at the universities of Halle and Berlin in Germany and also at Cornell. He taught at Swarthmore as a Professor Economics (Joseph Wharton Professor of Economics) from 1904-1908 and then as a Professor of Economics at the University of Cincinnati from 1908-1912. He returned to Swarthmore College as the Joseph Wharton Professor of Political Science from 1912 until his retirement. Brooks was a popular and highly regarded teacher.
