Biographical / Historical
The Society of KWINK was an organization of the managers of the men’s athletic teams at Swarthmore College. It was organized in 1916 and remained active until the mid 1960s. KWINK is short for the Latin word quinque, five, representing the five ideals of the Society: Service, Spirit, Scholarship, Society, and Sportsmanship. The organization's responsibilities included printing programs for home games, maintaining refreshment stands during games, and co-sponsoring the Sports Banquet. In 1951, KWINK established a trophy to be awarded to a senior man who best exemplified the five principles of the Society of KWINK .
GWIMP was the women's version for women's sports.
