Scope and Contents
This collection contains a variety of bound volumes, manuscripts, and printed items from the Swarthmore Alumni Association and related regional alumni groups. Included are meeting minutes, correspondence, publications, brochures, mailings, and directories for a variety of organizations of Swarthmore College Alumni, both in the Philadelphia area and elsewhere. The documents focus on the organizations' efforts to aid current students and to provide interactive opportunities for alumni and parents to stay involved in the College and in the alumni community. These records span the years from 1882, when the Swarthmore Alumni Association was founded, until 1990.
The collection is organized into thirteen series, based on document type or subgroup (often geographically based). Note that the documents of this collection come from a spectrum of associations and organizations, and these series do not necessarily represent a categorization strictly by organization.

Biographical / Historical
The Swarthmore Alumni Association, founded in 1882, engages Swarthmore graduates in activities that support current students, alumni, and Swarthmore College. The organization is governed by the Alumni Council and receives support from the Swarthmore College Alumni Office. The Alumni Association and the Alumni Office coordinate events such as Alumni Weekend, national and international gatherings, and alumni travel. The Swarthmore Alumni Association has ties to regional alumni organizations, as well. Regional organizations represented in this collection include the Swarthmore Women's Club of New York, the New York Swarthmore College Association, the Swarthmore Club of New York, the Swarthmore Alumnae Club of Philadelphia, the Swarthmore Club of Philadelphia, and the Western Swarthmore Club. It is still active.
