Rebecca Fordyce (Gayton) scrapbook

 Collection — Volume: 1
Identifier: 9LS-20

Scope and Contents

The Rebecca Fordyce (Gayton) scrapbook contains the one volume scrapbook of Rebecca Fordyce, Bryn Mawr class of 1916. The scrapbook details Fordyce’s years at Bryn Mawr, from 1912 to 1916, with the bulk of the material being from 1912 to 1913.

The scrapbook is comprised of one volume. It contains the usual memorabilia, such as notes from friends, school dance memorabilia, and various official BMC materials. Notably, the scrapbook contains several “sensational” newspaper articles from the time period regarding Bryn Mawr, as well as BMC directories, as well as some articles and notes dealing with the 1913 flood in Youngstown, Ohio. It also contains a very small amount of memorabilia from a trip to Panama in 1913. Some other items of interest are the 1912 and 1914 Finding Lists; the 1916 Graduation program; the 1916 class song; a syllabus from 1st year English Literature (1912-13); a photo of Taylor; envelop of clippings re: May Day ’14; and a piece of crepe paper decoration and two tiny stockings from a dorm Christmas party.

Fordyce’s scrapbook primarily consists of typical Bryn Mawr memorabilia, but as noted above, there are some unique elements. This book is fragile, but able to be used casually. Its assortment of materials would be of value to those interested in Bryn Mawr during the early twentieth century.
