Records of Charlottesville Monthly Meeting, 1966-2019, with gaps. Primarily minutes and newsletters, including digital. Also includes a folder of records created by the independent Young Friends of the University of Virginia (circa 1939-1943), whose convenor later began Charlottesville Worship Group in 1952.

Biographical / Historical

In 1952, two Quaker families, the Wileys of Earlysville and the Morans of Free Union, began a Friends meeting in Charlottesville. It was established as a monthly meeting in 2mo 1963 by Potomac Quarterly Meeting. Charlottesville Monthly Meeting held its first meeting in 4 mo 1963.

Prior to the establishment as a worship group in 1952, Charles (Chic) Moran started a "Young Friends of the University of Virginia" as an indepedent meeting that was active 1939 through at least 1943.

Deposit. Digital records from the 2010s deposited by Wayne Finegar, General Secretary of Baltimore Yearly Meeting, in 2020. "Young Friends of UVA" files were donated.
