Helen Hill Miller papers

The Helen Hill Miller papers house the papers of Helen Miller, Bryn Mawr class of 1921, biographer and journalist. The collection, which ranges from 1969-1974, mainly consists of materials for a book that Miller wrote in 1969 titled The Realms of Arthur.

The collection is housed in three boxes. The first two boxes contain materials related to Miller’s book. The third contains drawings. The first box contains corrected proofs for The Realms of Arthur, published in 1969 by Scribner’s and 1970 by Davies. It also contains two book jackets; a contract with Scribner’s; a bibliography; and correspondence with Scribner’s and Davies, 1972-74. It further contains material for the Smithsonian Institution’s study tour of King Arthur’s England for members of the Smithsonian Associates, 11 July to 1 August, 1972; bibliographies; schedules; clippings; and nine slide boxes containing 236 colored slides for Realms of Arthur. The second box holds 196 black and white photographs for Realms of Arthur, primarily of Romano-British sites and Romano-Arthurian sites. The third box contains six drawings of maps of the Aegean Sea.

Helen Hill Miller wrote over 20 books in her lifetime, and was well known for her painstakingly-researched history books. The Realms of Arthur questions who the real King Arthur might have been and how his story became popularized. This collection of materials would be of value to those interested in King Arthur and Miller’s writing process.
