Scope and Contents

The Ruth Pearce papers contain the professional library of Ruth Pearce, a Russian Professor at Bryn Mawr College. The collection has not been dated, but can be inferred to primarily consist of materials from the 1950s-1970s. It consists mostly of works related to the Russian language and culture, and Pearce’s manuscript.

The collection is housed in one document case containing fifteen folders.

Folder 1 contains miscellaneous correspondence. Folders 2-5 contain a typeset manuscript for Slavica publishers. The title page of this manuscript is missing. Folders 6-9 contain Xeroxed pages of text in Russian. It is unknown whether they are her articles or simply ones that she collected. Folders 10-11 contain class materials mainly for 00 and 100 classes. Folder 12 contains a tape marked “Units VI and VII.” Folders 13-15 contain Pearce’s manuscript, “Anatomy of Russian Prepositions,” Pearce’s treatise on the syntactic values of Russian prepositions.

Pearce taught Russian at Bryn Mawr during the 1950s-1970s and was later chair of the Department. This collection would be of worth to those interested in the Bryn Mawr Russian Department and Pearce’s work.
