Lucy Fairbank scrapbook

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: BMC-9LS-30

Scope and Contents

The Lucy Fairbank scrapbook houses the one volume scrapbook created and kept by Lucy Fairbank, Bryn Mawr class of 1935. The scrapbook, which spans 1932 to 1933, is small and contains mostly photographs taken at Bryn Mawr and during Fairbank’s vacations.

The scrapbook consists of one volume. Some highlights of the book are 4 photos of Lucy Fairbank at Bryn Mawr (in dorm and at graduation); newspaper clipping of Lucy Fairbank at May Day (1930s); 2 photographs of tennis match at BMC; programs from plays in Philadelphia, New York, 1932-33; notes from friends 1932-33; newspaper clipping featuring a photo of the Princess of China being interviewed by Bryn Mawr student 1933; newspaper clipping featuring impressions of inauguration day 193; photographs of Washington DC; and photographs from summer as camp counselor in Wisconsin 1933.

Although it contains much of the standard Bryn Mawr memorabilia, this scrapbook is unusual for the number of photos and other materials it contains to life outside of Bryn Mawr. This scrapbook gives a good idea of social life outside of Bryn Mawr in 1932-33. The photographs are well labeled and the scrapbook itself is in excellent condition. It should be noted that a lovely picture of Fairbank in costume for a May Day play in 1932 is in the Bryn Mawr College Photo Archives and on Triptych.
