Ruby Waller scrapbook
Scope and Contents
The Ruby Waller scrapbook houses the oversized scrapbook of Ruby Waller, who entered with the class of 1914. The scrapbook ranges from 1910-1913, and principally contains correspondence and play programs.
The scrapbook comprises one volume. It contains mostly personal letters and programs from plays/orchestras, operas, and other entertainments both at Bryn Mawr and in the Philadelphia and New York area. However, it does have quite a few watercolor name cards from Bryn Mawr; a few newspaper articles related to Bryn Mawr; and various programs. Materials of note include: a newspaper clipping called “Bryn Mawr Girls in Pants: If It Hadn’t Been For a Farmer, Hazing Might Have Led to Fine Young Scandal”; a newspaper clipping called “College Life at Bryn Mawr” from The Sun, 1911; and “Bryn Mawr: A Characterization” booklet, reprinted from the Bryn Mawr Alumnae Quarterly, January 1908.
This scrapbook is very neat and organized. It contains an abundance of materials concerning student life and outside perceptions of women’s colleges. It would be a useful resource for those interested in Bryn Mawr’s history during the early 20th century.
