Scope and Contents
The Jeannie Colston Howard scrapbook contains the scrapbook of Jeannie Colston Howard, Bryn Mawr College class of 1901. The scrapbook covers Howard’s years at Bryn Mawr, from 1897 to 1901, and contains mostly personal correspondence, calling cards and invitations.
The scrapbook contains one volume. This scrapbook contains many poems written to Jeannie by friends, often on cards with illustrations of college life on them. There is also many handwritten lyrics to class songs and the usual Bryn Mawr memorabilia (May Day programs, calling cards, invitations, play programs, etc.). It also has additional photographs in an accompanying notebook. Of note are a list of Self Government positions and students each year from 1897-1901 (written on the front cover); a poem booklet by “C.S.” to “J.C.H. and G.T.L.,” a long poem about missing girls at Bryn Mawr 1898; and song lyrics and addresses from 10-year reunion of Class of 1901, 1911.
The scrapbook contains much of the usual Bryn Mawr memorabilia, but is nevertheless a worthwhile resource for those interested in Bryn Mawr history at the turn of the century.

Biographical / Historical
Jeannie Colston Howard was born in Richmond, Virginia on December 23, 1878. She attended Bryn Mawr College, graduating in 1901. After graduation, she taught at Shipley School and St. Margaret’s. From 1905-1918, she was a teacher and then principal at Stuart Hall. Howard later pursued her masters in Latin at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1926. She was a member of Colonial Dames. Howard passed away in 1968.
