Elizabeth Welbourn (Seccombe) scrapbook
Scope and Contents
The Elizabeth Welbourn (Seccombe) scrapbook houses the one volume scrapbook of Elizabeth Welbourn Seccombe, Bryn Mawr class of 1938. The scrapbook covers Welbourn’s last three years at college, from 1935-1938 and is mostly concerned with social memorabilia.
The scrapbook comprises one volume. The book is in poor condition, and there are a few loose items contained in plastic bags. In addition to the usual Bryn Mawr memorabilia (clippings, pamphlets, etc.), it contains a large number of dance cards and football memorabilia from Haverford College, Princeton University, and others. There are also a great deal of telegrams and Christmas and Valentine’s cards. Items of note in the scrapbook include a joke edition of The College News 1938 (in a bag), comics about Bryn Mawr, and final exams from 1938.
The scrapbook gives a well-rounded view of an undergraduate social life that extended beyond Bryn Mawr College, while still presenting some unique Bryn Mawr memorabilia. It would be of interest to anyone studying Bryn Mawr in the 1930s, especially the social life of students in the 1930s.
