Edith Dabney (Ford) scrapbook
Scope and Contents
The Edith Dabney scrapbook houses the one volume scrapbook of Edith (Ford) Dabney, Bryn Mawr class of 1903. The scrapbook, which primarily consists of material from 1899-1903, is extremely dense and consists primarily of personal correspondence and notes/poems/signs etc. from friends. However, it also contains quite a few unique photographs and gives a broad view of undergraduate life at Bryn Mawr.
The scrapbook is comprised of one volume. It contains many programs for plays, both during and after Dabney’s time at Bryn Mawr. It also has a programs from the 1900 May Day and 2 Glee and Mandolin Club programs. Some notable photographs include pictures of campus buildings (including the old gym, where the campus center now stands), lantern night, scenes from “The Adventure of Lady Ursula” and “The Quest of the Lantern,” scenes from May Day Places (1900), graduation (1903?), basketball, and candids of students. Some other items of interest are two notes from M. Carey Thomas to Dabney in her capacity as SGA President, some class songs and cheers, a pamphlet about the decision to hold May Day 1900, speeches made by Dabney for SGA, and a copy of the Honor Code.
Dabney majored in History and served as SGA President from 1902-03. The scrapbook is particularly notable for the large number of photographs included, which appear to have been taken by Dabney herself, and the sheer volume of memorabilia. It would be of use to anyone interested in early Bryn Mawr history, SGA history, and photographs of Bryn Mawr.
