Judith Kate Haywood Jacoby papers

Judith Kate Haywood (later Jacoby) (1934-1997) was a 1955 graduate of Bryn Mawr College. She majored in economics, with a particular interest in international economics and trade.

Judith came to Bryn Mawr in the fall of 1951 from Rosemary Hall, an independent school for girls in Greenwich, Connecticut. Judith received a tour of Europe from her parents as a high school graduation present. She continued to pursue her passion for travel by taking trips to Alaska and Mexico as well as other places in North America, South America, and Europe.

While at Bryn Mawr, Judith was active in the Chapel Committee and served as its chairwoman from 1953-1954. On her birthday in March of 1954, Judith was elected president of the Bryn Mawr League (1954-1955), a group concerned with local and worldwide social causes such as desegregation and education.

After college, Judith worked for AT&T as a financial analyst (1955-1957). She returned to Rosemary Hall for a short time to teach mathematics (1957-1959). Judith married Dean Jacoby, and they had two sons, Karl Haywood Jacoby and Dean Albert Jacoby.

Judith was on the Board of Trustees of the Fenn School (1970-1976), Choate Rosemary Hall (1977-1993), and Bryn Mawr College at the time of her death in 1997. Judith was president of the Bryn Mawr Club of Boston and a member of the Concord Garden Club. Notably, she played major roles in the Bryn Mawr College Book Sale in Cambridge, which raised over a million dollars in scholarship funds. Judith also served as chairperson and long-time treasurer of Bryn Mawr's Regional Scholarship Committee in the northeastern United States.
