Biographical / Historical

In 1870, the Baltimore Monthly Meeting reported that a survey had shown 37 Friends, representing 11 families living in Charles County, Maryland. In May of the following year, a Meeting for Worship and a Preparative Meeting were authorized to be held at the home of Daniel P. Haviland in that county. Three months later, with the consent of the Baltimore Quarterly Meeting, a Monthly Meeting was established, although no Meeting House had yet been built. Patuxent Monthly Meeting was laid down in 1942 and members attached to Washington Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) meeting at Irving Street. A second Patuxent Monthly Meeting has been active since 1995.
