Biographical / Historical
In 1803, Indian Spring Monthly Meeting allowed an indulged meeting for worship for Friends in the City of Washington. Fourteen years later, in 1817, members of the Washington Preparative Meeting were transferred to Alexandria Meeting. After the Separation, Orthodox Friends in Washington were attached to Indian Spring Preparative Meeting; an Orthodox meeting for worship was re-established in the District by 1876. The Hicksite meeting was laid down in 1849.
